ART_S

I create art to explore the ideas of typography and music through the process of design. Art to express myself, the emotion of a song, the creative process. I am drawn to graffiti because of it use of typography in a stylistic way. In conceptual way I am drawn to street art and graffiti because many works are collaborative effort in a jam style of working. Many also have no name attached to them or face attached to name just art for art and nothing else.
In making art I use many different ways from hand drawings to computer-generated images. My designs will start out as some sort of hand drawing or sketch, I feel that had drawing gives me a connection with the piece I am working on. I like working by hand but the computer gives be the ability to take certain designs and ideas to a new level by allowing me to explore multiple design options quickly and without destroying the original.
I design art through a number of different ways the main way is drawing because for me it easier for me to get a sketch from my head down with pencil and paper then any other means. Programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver have been stables of my design work and I have worked in Maya, Final Cut Pro, and Soundtrack Pro. Programs such as these enable me to push my designs in different ways that hand drawing would not allow such as 3D modeling, distortion of images, manipulation of color and scale. In this way I am also looking to learn more about the programs and drawing so that I can use the knowledge to advance my designs.

Memory Podcast

The podcast on memory was interesting to listen to because one science is keeping up with movies.  The idea that the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind could really happen and in the future might be a reallity if someone can find a way to make money on it is crazy to think about.  I think it makes you think what real makes you, as the guy said he thinks of himself as a string of memories and I would a agree with that but I understand that memories change as you get older.  It is like the fish you catcah at the lake every time that fish gets bigger.  In the same way I think that this can help a lot of people like people coming home from war and other cases.

The other thing that this podcast made me think about is this feeling that stay with you no matter what.  These feeling that are deep in you this love for his wife, which I may add is a beauitful thing, and this feeling for this girl/time in place.  The thing that if reminds me of are these gut feeling that come to you.  A story about this is my friend Lindsay has a friend who is a tattoo artist and one day a kid came in a wanted a design that he had made for his bussiness card.  When he gave the kid the tattoo he had a gut feeling that he should finish the tattoo in one sitting and so he didn’t the kid leave and the kid died two days later of an OD.  Just makes me think that there are these things that you can tune into out there if you are just open, like this past memory that you don’t really remember or this gut feeling.  I feel that memories make us who we are and if we take out the ones that casuse us pain then we are only a shell of our being.

Video

The Topic for my video will be steriotypes and how they can be postive.  The reason for this topic is that I get steriotyped a lot as a Hippie/pothead because I have long hair and I listen to a lot of jam bands like Phish and I also listen to Bob Marley. This is a frusting thing when everyone first question/impression is you are a stoner, when the truth is I have never smoked weed in my life.  My favorite time though that this happened and a time that makes me think it sometimes is a good thing is when I was walking pass the then Crowbar and a jam band was playing a person started talking to me before he realized I was not one of his friends or someone he knew. He had just assumed since I was walking by and looked like I did that he knew me which I found funny.

Podcast Subscribtion

The Podcasts that I subscibed to were based off things I like which are music and having a good time so with that said:

1) NPR:Live Concerts from All Songs Considered -
I subscibed to this podcast because it is concerts which I love and they have a lot of bands that I enjoy listening to like the Hold Steady, which is the concert I was listing to earier today and Iron and Wine. This lets me feel that I have seen these bands in concert so when I do, I know what it is going to be like.

2)The Onion New Network -
I subscribed to this one because one I like to read the Onion and this way I get video clips of them doing news stories and I also love watching the Daily Show. This podcast has that kinda feel to it which I really enjoy.

Other ones that I subsrribed to were the Flight of the Conchards podcast which is a show on HBO about a folk comdey band from New Zealand. I signed up for this one because I like the show and the podcast carrys on with a similar feel as the show.

Radio Lab

In this program of Radio Lab one of the things that I really  stuck out in my mind was about the idea of repeating words turn into music and sung words.  This was a interesting part of the show because I could hear the change in the part they played where it changed into sung/music.  This made me think of bands that are electronic based like Daf Punk, Justice, and the Gorillaz  that can use  clips of people talking  and this idea of looping to create sung words in the background of their songs.  This type of music seems to be becoming more popular here with Kayne West sampling  Daf  Punk and Justice  getting more  attention  in the States.   This brings me to my next point I would like to talk about which is the idea of the brain changes to and grows to we like this more over time, which is to say music grows on us.  I would like to talk about this because we have all probably said  when I went back and listen to that I liked it more and this idea which they were talking about with the Overture and how it was accepted.  This reminded me of a class which was the Evolution of Jazz and how Free Jazz was like this to me.  I would like to say that maybe this idea can how music bring back the art of the album where you can take people on a emotional ride using this idea.  I would also like to say that maybe would could find patterns in images like we found in the music we like and see if there is a foil for that as well.
